The assessment notices were mailed on February 26th, 2021. Tax notices will be mailed out in May. If you did not receive your assessment notice, please call the Town Office and request a notice.
All non-linear assessment complaints for the Town of Fairview along with the applicable fees are due by May 4th, 2021. An assessment complaint must be filled out using the Government of Alberta Assessment Review Board Complaint Form (LGS1402). This form can be provided to you by the Town of Fairview office or you can download it from the Municipal Affairs website at www.municipalaffairs.alberta.ca.
Assessments are based on market value as of July 1, 2020. You may appeal the assessed value of your property, but not the tax rate. For information about your assessment, please contact the Town’s assessors:
KCL Consulting Inc online at www.kcl-consulting.com/inquiry-form/ .
Yearly, Council approves the budget based on the expenditures required to provide necessary services. From this total amount, taxes are levied to support the budget. This amount makes up the municipal portion of your taxes. Other taxes are levied by the Alberta school systems and the North Peace Housing Foundation. These amounts are collected by the Town and forwarded to those organizations.
If you wish to pay your taxes monthly, please enroll in the Pre-Authorized Tax Installment Payment Plan. Arrangements to enroll may be made when you first purchase a property or before January 10th.
Tax notices are sent out in May of each year and are due payable in full on June 30th of each tax year. Failure to receive a tax notice is not considered sufficient reason for non-payment of property taxes. If you have not received your tax notice please call the office at 780-835-5461.

How are my municipal taxes calculated?
Once the Town has set the budget, the amount required from taxes is divided by the total assessed values of all properties. This gives us a Tax Rate. The amount each property owner pays is determined by their property assessment value multiplied by this Tax Rate. Using this method, the amount required to operate the town for one year is split among all property owners in Town based on the assessed value of their property.
How are my other (Education & NPHF) taxes calculated?
The organizations determine the amount they require from each municipality (we call this a requisition). Once we know that amount, we follow the same process of calculating a Tax Rate and then using that Tax Rate to determine the taxes for each property. These taxes collected are not subject to control or review by the Town. Under provincial legislation, the Town is required to collect these taxes on behalf of the organizations.
