Access to Information Act (ATIA)

Access to Information

The Access to Information Act (ATIA) came into force on June 11, 2025, and replaces part of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The ATIA allows access to records held by public bodies and it aims to strike a balance between the public’s right to know information and protecting confidential information required to ensure effective operations of government and public bodies.

Right to Request Information

The Access to Information Act (ATIA) provides access to records held by public bodies in Alberta. Individuals can also submit an ATI request to access their own personal information.

Additional Information

The Access to Information (ATI) Coordinator is available to help determine whether the records you are seeking are available, provide guidance on the most appropriate method for obtaining access to the information you need, and assist you in preparing an accurate and complete description of the records for your request.

Privacy Management Program

Under the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), all public bodies in Alberta are required to establish and implement a comprehensive privacy management program (PMP), consisting of documented policies, procedures and other governance documents that guide how information is managed at the Town of Fairview (Town).

The Town is currently expanding our current PMP to meet these requirements. Our complete PMP, including Town's Protection of Privacy Administration Policy and all related standards and procedures, will be posted here and available to the public by June 11, 2026.

A strong and accessible PMP will help ensure personal information is handled with care and transparency and that privacy risks are identified and managed appropriately and proactively. The Town is committed to strengthening public trust and meeting our legal obligations.

Stay Tuned

This page will continue to be updated as new resources become available. We appreciate your patience as we work toward full compliance with POPA and expand our privacy management program.
